In what types of commercial properties might a REIT invest?

REITs may invest in many types of commercial properties that have the potential to generate income, including: office space; rental housing/apartments; warehouse space; medical facilities; shopping centers; and raw land that may be held, developed, or sold to generate income and profits. REITs may also purchase mortgages and invest in various debt obligations related to financing real estate. In this way, REITs pool large amounts of capital to finance the development and ongoing ownership of many classes of real property investments.
