In an interview published by the site www.Mint.com, author of the book Locavesting (2011), Amy Cortese, cites many reasons why investing locally is beneficial, beyond obtaining returns and gains from the investment. Her top reasons include: creating and maintaining local jobs; keeping local capital in circulation; the local multiplier effect (local money helps other ancillary businesses that employ people, who then spend locally, etc.); the effect local businesses have on the local community (because they are based locally, they care about the local community, and are not interested in exporting jobs and capital outside the community); and the use of local banks (that, in turn, lend the money locally and reinvest in the community).
