What did Jack Bogle, founder of the Vanguard Group, do to save and invest money for his children’s college education?

In a CNBC interview, the famous investment manager stated that when his six children were very young, he opened up investment accounts for them. Ultimately, some of his children used the money for their higher education. Some years later, his children used what remained of the money to purchase their first houses.
