What is a “Federal Perkins Loan”?

A Federal Perkins Loan is a low-interest (5%) loan made available through your institution’s financial aid office to undergraduate and graduate students who have demonstrated exceptional financial need. The school actually lends the money, and therefore the loan is repaid to the institution directly, although the funds issue from the government.
