Life Stage Investing

What is a basic assumption of life stage investing?

Life stage investing assumes that as you age—especially as you near retirement—your risk profile changes from high to low, so investors often reduce their exposure to higher risk investments as they age. Typically, by your retirement year, you are entirely invested in a low-risk money market or bond portfolio, gradually reducing more risky investments in preceding years.
