The Basics

What is a “prospectus”?

A prospectus is a document, sometimes known as an offering document or official statement, that provides an explanation as to the bond’s terms, features, and risks all investors should know before entering into an investment. It may help an investor to decide if the bond issuer can reliably make stated interest payments. The prospectus is used as a small information component that may include credit ratings agencies’ reports, market reports, and professional analyses published by sector specialists at investment organizations and banks.
