What is “life insurance”?

Life insurance represents a contract between an insured and an insurance company whereby, in exchange for premiums paid by the insured (whether at regular intervals or in one lump sum), the insurance company will pay the value of the insurance policy, at the end of life of the insured, to his beneficiary. There are two main types of life insurance products, term and permanent.
