What problems were computers originally invented to solve?

Originally, computers were invented to solve numerical problems. Now, very few mathematicians, scientists, computer scientists, and engineers—and even the general public—can imagine a world without computers. Advances in technology have led to an increase in accuracy, the number of problems that can be solved, data points that can be entered into the computers, and speed in solving problems. All this is a far cry from the earliest computers and computational devices.
