The Homeric Hymns is an important source for our knowledge of Greek mythology. Composed in the Archaic period—the seventh and sixth centuries B.C.E.—the “Hymns” is a collection of stories in verse generally attributed to the school of poets known as the Homeridae (“Sons of Homer”). In the collection we find important myths such as those of Demeter and Persephone, Artemis, Apollo, Athene, Dionysos, and Aphrodite.
