The Mahabharata

What is the plot line of the Mahabharata?

After political struggles, Yudhishthira claims universal kingship, but is challenged by Duryodhana, who challenges him to a decision-making game of dice. Yudhishthira loses, giving up everything he and his brothers own, including Draupadi. In short, he loses Prosperity itself, since Draupadi is an incarnation of Lakshmi. When the winning Kauravas attempt to humiliate Draupadi by disrobing her, Krishna uses his powers to make her sari endless. She and her husbands, nevertheless, go into exile, marking the preparation for the great sacrifice that will come. Later, in a war to end wars, the Pandavas defeat the Kauravas, but almost all the warriors are killed, bringing to an end the current age, the kaliyuga. Vishnu, thus, has relieved Earth of her burden in preparation for a new creation.

During the festival of Ganesha, a likeness of the elephant-headed god is carried through the streets of Hyderabad, India.
