At the center of the creation from chaos is an animistic sense that earth always possessed the potential (animus) for creation. If the ex nihilo creation is centered on an individual god, the chaos creation is centered more on Earth’s potential, even on the maternal aspect of creation: the maternal waters, the egg which came before its contents.
