Especially in the earth-diver myths that contain the twin motif, we find an inherent statement about the duality of human nature and of existence itself. The mother gives but also takes away. She produces good and evil. There is life and there is death. Finally, the Sky Woman is a form of Mother Earth, the world parent—and an expression of the feminine nature of the animistic universe envisioned by the Native Americans. As for the primordial waters, they also convey a sense of creation as a birthing process.
