The World Myth

War in Heaven and the Creation

What is the significance of the war in heaven?

This war in some versions—the Babylonian and the Greek, for instance—can reflect a new religious system in opposition to an older one. Thus, the Marduk religion replaces the old Tiamat cult, and the Olympians replace the old Gaia-Kronos dynasty. The motif can also be another way of expressing a sense of the duality inherent in the universe.
