Most myths, understandably, describe the creation of the first examples of the people who would create the myths. The Sumerians, the Chinese, the Hawaiians, the Maidu, and several Iroquoian tribes say that the first humans were made from clay. The Maya say that the gods made the first imperfect humans out of mud and wood. Body parts will do as well; God created Eve from Adam’s rib (or from dust). Ymir produced the first Norse humans from his armpit. Most mythologies have characters known by various names but always meaning what the Navajo mean when they tell of First Man and First Woman.
