The Etruscans, like the Romans, were more than willing to assume that foreign deities were equivalents of their own gods. The Phoenecian Astarte and the Greek Hera, they saw as embodiments of their own great goddess, Uni. Another important goddess was Menrva. Tinia was a powerful god of lightning. Turan was a goddess of love. Many of these deities were directly adopted from the Greeks. Aplu and Artumes, for example, were versions of Apollo and Artemis.
