The World Myth

The Flood

Why is the flood archetype so ubiquitous?

The flood myth is as ubiquitous as the human race’s sense of its own imperfection and the need for a second chance. Apocalyptic myths such as the Norse Ragnarok can serve as the equivalent of the great deluge—the end of all things—as can the great war between the Pandavas and Kauravas in the Indian Mahabharata.
