The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (www.naic.org) keeps track of all complaints lodged against insurance companies in each state. You may do a search and investigate your insurance company by going to its site and entering the name of the company to see if it exists, if it has any complaints, and if it is a legitimate company with which to do business.
