People may consider selling their homes during a down market because of some life change, perhaps employment or marital change. If you have been in the house for a long time, and do not wish to see your equity in the home further eroded, it may be the time to sell. But, thinking of your home as a long-term investment, some would argue that it is best to wait out market cycles, and sell when the prices are high or higher than they currently are. Each individual seller must evaluate his or her tolerance for losses, and appetite for risk, and decide the best time to sell.
