What is the Affordable Care Act?

The Affordable Care Act, passed by Congress and signed into law by President Barack Obama in March 2010, gives Americans better health security by putting in place comprehensive health insurance reforms that hold insurance companies accountable, lower health care costs, guarantee more choice, and enhance the quality of care for all Americans.

About 50 million Americans between the ages of 18 and 64 have no health insurance, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
