What should I consider when choosing a broker or firm in which to invest my money?

Some of the most important considerations are training and education of the broker, the fees or commissions on trades, both buying and selling, the broker’s track record of performance, especially how well he or she does during both down markets and when the markets are doing very well, the firm’s reputation, whether or not there have been any official complaints against the firm, whether the firm is solvent, whether or not they trade directly in the markets, and whether the firm is legitimate.
