Your house needs to be in an area where there are excellent schools, a place where taxes are used to support great city services, where upkeep and maintenance of neighboring homes is excellent, and near where your place of work is. It is great to live in a walkable community, a place where there is a sense of belonging, security, and friendliness. It is important that there be very little crime, if at all, as this will greatly increase the value of your home, and make it easier to sell your home in the long-term.
