How does a curve ball curve?

The curve ball experiences the Magnus Force like the golf ball. The pitcher can give the ball a backward spin, creating lift, or a sideways spin, causing the ball to curve sideways. When a pitcher throws a knuckle ball the ball spins very slowly. The laces on the ball create small forces that make the ball move erratically through the air.
