Telescopes

What are the advantages of the Hubble Space Telescope?

The Hubble doesn’t have a mirror as large as the new Earth-based telescopes, but being in space it is not limited by the distortions caused by variations in the refractive index of air above the telescope. In addition, a space telescope can detect the infrared and ultraviolet rays blocked by Earth’s atmosphere. Other space-based telescopes are designed to detect X rays and gamma rays from extremely energetic stars and galaxies.
