What is a refractor telescope?

The refractor telescope was the first telescope ever created. It employs one lens to gather, refract, and focus light toward an eyepiece. The eyepiece contains one or more lenses that create an image that they eye can see. The larger the diameter of the lens, the more light the telescope can gather. The weight of the lenses then limits the practical size of refractor telescopes.
