Who introduced the modern chemical symbols?

Swedish chemist Jons Jakob Berzelius (1779-1848) introduced the modern chemical notation using one or two letters to represent an element in 1813. Rather than today’s notation for water, H2O, Berzelius wrote H2O. Berzelius did much more. He published the first accurate list of the weights of atoms.
