An electromagnet is a coil of current-carrying wire wound on a iron core that is at the center of an iron cup. The magnetic field created by current in the wire is strengthened by the iron core. The strength of the magnetic field produced by such electromagnets creates a large force, as described by the Lorentz Force Law that allows people to more easily move large metal objects, such as steel cars, from one location to another.
