Between leaving the Senate and his eventual presidency, what did Pierce do? |
He practiced law and continued to participate in party activities. He worked as chairman of the Democratic Party in New Hampshire and campaigned actively for James K. Polk. As a result, when Polk became president he appointed Pierce as U.S. district attorney in New Hampshire. Polk served in that position from 1845 to 1847.
