Did Taft seek reelection? |
Yes, but he faced considerable opposition in his own party. His former mentor and friend Theodore Roosevelt believed that Taft had not followed his progressive policies and questioned Taft’s leadership skills. Taft managed to capture the Republican Party nomination through some deft political maneuvering, but Roosevelt simply created a third party—the Progressive or Bull Moose Party. This doomed the Republicans and enabled Democrat Woodrow Wilson to win the election.
