Yes, Martin and Hannah had five children: Abraham, John, Martin, Winfield Scott, and Smith Thompson. Abraham later served as Van Buren’s secretary when he was president. He also distinguished himself during military action in the Mexican War.

His son John became a lawyer and later served as New York attorney general, as did his famous father. John also served in the U.S. House of Representatives.
