William Howard Taft

Political Positions

To what position did the Ohio governor appoint him in 1887?

Governor Joseph B. Foraker appointed Taft to fill a vacancy on the Ohio Superior Court in Cincinnati. Taft was only thirty years old at the time, but the governor was impressed with his keen legal mind. Taft filled out the remainder of the term and then won reelection. It was the only election in which he would participate until capturing the presidency in 1908.
