What executive order did Truman issue that changed the composition of the military?

Truman issued Executive Order 9981 in July 26, 1948, which called for “equality of treatment and opportunity for all persons in the armed forces without regard to race, color, religion, or national origin.” This led to the desegregation of the American military and is considered a milestone in the quest for civil rights in the United States.
