Herbert Hoover, the future thirty-first president of the United States, served as Harding’s secretary of commerce. Harding gave Hoover the choice of serving as either secretary of the interior or secretary of commerce. Hoover wanted the position of secretary of commerce. Harding chose Albert B. Fall for his secretary of the interior.
