What lifetime position did Van Buren decline while a member of the Senate?

Van Buren initially agreed with Secretary of the Navy Smith Thompson’s suggestion that President James Monroe appoint Van Buren to the U.S. Supreme Court. However, President Monroe did not move very quickly and Van Buren made it known that he did not want the appointment.
