What other political parties dominated the political scene between 1844 and 1856?

During the mid-1800s, several political parties rose up, mainly in response to the slavery issue that had divided the nation. Three parties garnered headlines at this point in America’s history: the Liberty Party; the Free-Soil Party; and the American Party, colloquially referred to as the Know-Nothings.
