What positions did Lincoln decline?

Lincoln actively supported the Whig presidential campaign of Zachary Taylor, who became the country’s twelfth president. Taylor offered Lincoln the position of governor of the Oregon territory, but Lincoln declined that appointment. Instead, Lincoln had wanted the job of commissioner of the General Land Office, but Taylor declined to appoint him. Lincoln therefore retired from politics and resumed his legal career.
