Taylor’s education was relatively limited. He had private tutoring intermittently, but he did not attend a place of higher learning. Taylor never enjoyed academics much; he preferred helping with the management of the family plantation and engaging in athletics. He must have been very fit, since his biographers report that he once swam across the Ohio River to Indiana and back.
