What were Fillmore’s contributions to the city of Buffalo?

Fillmore made lasting contributions to the city of Buffalo in his post-presidential years. He had become the first chancellor of the University of Buffalo in 1846, and he officially held that position until his death in 1874. He also founded the Buffalo Historical Society in 1862 and served as the group’s first president. He founded a hospital in the city and an animal rights group.
