When did Arthur officially become president?

Garfield died on the evening of September 19, 1881. Early the morning of September 20, 1881, a state judge swore in Chester A. Arthur as the country’s new president. He later took another oath of office, this time administered by Chief Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court Morrison Waite.
