Charles Francis Adams had a successful political career, serving in the Massachusetts House of Representatives, the Massachusetts Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives. He also worked as U.S. ambassador to Great Britain. Charles also edited his father’s diaries and published them as Memoirs of John Quincy Adams, Taken from His Diaries 1794–1848 (1874–1877).
