Elections

Which presidents won the election to president even though they didn’t win the popular vote?

Presidents Rutherford B. Hayes, Benjamin Harrison, and George W. Bush won the presidency even though they lost the popular vote to Andrew Jackson, Samuel Tilden, Grover Cleveland, and Al Gore, respectively. President John Quincy Adams probably also lost the popular vote—even though there wasn’t a popular vote at the time—because he finished behind Andrew Jackson in the number of electoral votes in 1824.
