Who was Garfield’s vice president?

Chester A. Arthur of New York was his vice president. Arthur was a supporter of powerful New York politician Roscoe Conklin. To appease Conklin and the Stalwart wing of the Republican Party, Arthur was offered the job of vice president. Little did he know that he would become president less than a year later.
