Lyndon Baines Johnson was born near Stonewall, Texas, to Sam Ealy Johnson Jr. and Rebekah Baines Johnson on August 27, 1908.

Lyndon Johnson was named after W. C. Linden, a family friend and popular attorney. His parents agreed to name their son after the lawyer, but his mother changed the spelling to Lyndon.
