Who was his first love? |
A twenty-three-year-old Adams fell in love with sixteen-year-old Mary Frazier of New-buryport, Massachusetts. He wanted to ask for her hand in marriage but did not do so, partly at the insistence of his mother, Abigail. She warned her son about the dangers of marrying too young and how it might negatively impact his career. It took Adams many years to recover from the loss of this relationship.
