Who was his vice president?

Millard Fillmore from New York was Taylor’s vice president. The Whigs believed that they needed a Northerner as vice president to balance the ticket, as Taylor was a Southerner. The Whigs also wanted someone who had outstanding political credentials because Taylor had no political experience. Fillmore fit the bill.
