Coolidge defeated Democrat John W. Davis and Progressive Robert M. LaFollette Sr. to win the election in 1924. Coolidge garnered 382 electoral votes to 136 for Davis and 13 for LaFollette. His campaign used the slogan: “Keep Cool with Coolidge.”
Davis, a former congressman from West Virginia, is known for his outstanding legal career. He argued approximately 140 cases before the U.S. Supreme Court. He argued many cases before the High Court as solicitor general under President Woodrow Wilson. LaFollette was the former governor of Wisconsin, who had a lengthy career in the U.S. Senate.
