Why did Polk not accomplish much after his term in office?

Unfortunately, Polk only lived a mere three months after leaving the White House. He did not get much time to enjoy the home that he and his wife, Sarah, had purchased from Felix Grundy in Nashville. He passed away at the age of fifty-three. He frequently suffered from diarrhea and stomach ailments.
