What does evolutionary fitness mean?

Evolutionary fitness is the ability to pass on one’s genes to the next generation. If there is a larger proportion of gene A in the present generation than in the previous one, then the organism with gene A has demonstrated evolutionary fitness. Conversely, if the proportion of gene B has decreased across generations, then the organism with gene B has poor fitness.
