The principal “vehicles” (vahana) of the principal deities are as follows:

Shiva: the bull Nandi
Parvati: lion
Durga: lion, tiger, or parrot
Ganesha: mouse or rat
Skanda: peacock
Brahma: goose or swan
Vishnu: the eagle Garuda or the serpent Ananta
Lakshmi: owl
