Where do Jews live and how large is the global Jewish community?

Communities of Jews have historically taken root in virtually every corner of the earth since over three thousand years ago. Naturally the State of Israel is a major population center (5.7 milion), barely edging out the USA (5.27 million) as the largest. Widely varying estimates as to the size of the global Jewish community make it difficult to land on a useful number, but 14.5 million seems a reasonable total.
