How deadly is Amanita phalloides?

The poisonous mushroom Amanita phalloides has a fatality rate of about 50 percent. Ingestion of part of one mushroom may be sufficient to cause death. Over 100 fatalities occur each year from eating poisonous mushrooms, with more than 90 percent caused by the Amanita phalloides group.
